Adopt Environmental Policy Statement
Description of Action:
Environmental Policy Statement Our mission is to achieve zero waste in the waste management industry through innovation, improved efficiency and planting trees. However our environmental and sustainability efforts should not stop there. They should be tied into every aspect of our work and life, wherever we can find an area to improve it is our duty and responsibility to do so and set an example for others. At Sourgum Waste we expect all of our team members to fully uphold all environmental laws and regulations. They protect our customers, communities and environment. At no time is it acceptable to overlook or ignore any infractions and it is expected that you report any issues. We work closely with the DEP to ensure that we are complying with all local, state and federal regulations. We are committed to reducing the amount of waste and pollution on this planet. That is why we plant trees for every dumpster rented in order to offset the carbon emissions from servicing them. That is why we have made recycling mandatory and eliminated single use plastics in our office and replaced them with reusable bottles and containers. We expect all of our team members to put the wellness of our customers and the environment above profits and sales figures. Sourgum Waste has established partnerships with charity organizations and we expect all of our team members to encourage customers to donate or give away as many of their reusable items before placing them into the waste system. We expect our team members to make every effort to divert reusable waste that we transport out of the waste system before resorting to landfill disposal. We are committed to continuously improving ourselves and our sustainability efforts. Top level management will regularly meet throughout the year to review our environmental commitments and ensure we are on track. Once a year a company wide all hands on deck meeting will be held to discuss and solidify environmental impact and sustainability goals for the year. As dreamers, activists and doers I know our team can truly change the world.

Waste
Waste Reduction
Description of Action:
Reusable water bottles and foodware helps the environment in many ways. As we know single use plastic bottles can take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills. Although some plastic bottles are recycled, much of it ends up in our bodies of water. This has a detrimental impact on our marine life. Even worse than water bottles are plastic straws, that have a very high probability of escaping the waste system even if handled properly due to their small size and lightweight. At Sourgum Waste we took the initiative to give all of our employees reusable water bottles and foodware in order to cut out our plastic consumption and waste. On top of reducing our waste it has also saved the company money. We used to provide disposal water bottles to all of our employees, now with the reusable bottles we have an estimated $10,000 a year.

Waste Other
Description of Action:
As members of the waste industry we have a unique perspective of the waste flow for businesses. We noticed there was a lot of waste generated from paper invoices, so we made the decision to make all of our invoicing and billing completely paperless. Not only does this cut out waste from the unnecessary use of paper, it also saves us money from not having to purchase paper, ink, envelopes and stamps.
Environmental & Community Restoration
Environmental & Community Restoration Other
Description of Action:
At Sourgum Waste our mission is to achieve zero waste in the waste and recycling industry. We take a multi step approach to achieve our goal. One big aspect of our approach is planting a tree for every dumpster we rent. This offsets the carbon emissions emitted from our delivery vehicles. To accomplish this objective we have partnered with various non profit organizations who go out and plant trees on our behalf all around the world. They focus on forests who have suffered from natural disasters and severe deforestation.
Community
Support Community Initiatives
Description of Action:
Sourgum Waste believes in helping keep our communities clean and sustainable. We organize and orchestrate park and beach cleanups to remove harmful waste from polluting our communities and waterways. During our cleanups we also take the opportunity to train volunteers on the proper way to recycle. We are continually expanding our community initiatives to take on larger and more bolder projects. We are currently in the process of organizing completely organic and self sustaining community gardens within used and retired dumpsters. Giving the dumpsters new life and creating a safe community environment to learn about the importance of recycling and sustainability.
