Description of Action:
The Marketsmith Employee Action Committee (EAC) volunteers and collects children's gently used coats and books for the families of Camden St. School in Newark as part of the Bring Dinner Home effort (A foundation created by Monica C. Smith, fonder of Marketsmith). We host an annual Thanksgiving event where supplies such as gently used coats, books, diapers, grocery gift cards are distributed during the Thanksgiving dinner, we feed 1000 people during the event. The results for this effort since the inception of this program 9 years ago is as follows: 7000 children's/women/men coats, 5000 books, $10,000 in grocery store gift cards, school supplies, clothing and more. We also collect gently used linens for the animal shelter, One More Smith which is also owned by Monica C. Smith. The measurable benefit is that we were able to donate thousands of gently used coats and books and linens that otherwise would have discarded as trash and ending up in land fills.
