Adopt Environmental Policy Statement
Description of Action:
Larkspur Botanicals is an eco-friendly floral design studio that makes eco-conscious decisions from petal to vessel. We care about how we leave our world for future generations, and our impact on the people and ecosystems that are rooted in the beauty we create to celebrate. With limitless creativity, Larkspur Botanicals takes pride in our ability to transform table settings or event scenery according to our clients’ visions, while sourcing items that meet established standards of sustainability. The mainstream floral industry contributes to many environmental problems like pesticide pollution, dependence on plastics and excessive CO2 emissions. We are Larkspur Botanicals look to change that trend. According to Climate Care, an organization with a focus on projects that cut carbon emissions and fund social development, the average wedding emits around 14.5 tons of CO2, which is more than 12 tons emitted by the average person during a whole year. Larkspur Botanicals aims to minimize these negative effects by utilizing sustainable practices. With resourcefulness and a lot of research, we have been able to develop floral design techniques that allow us to design beautiful events in an eco-conscious way. Larkspur Botanicals sources plants and containers here in America, reducing the carbon footprint of shipping vases and plants from overseas, while supporting the domestic economy. Many flowers are grown in factory farm conditions in places like South America, where there are huge problems with labor exploitation and environmental conditions. Another trend that has been a large of Larkspur Botanicals’ success is our living centerpieces. One popular design is a round or square wreath-like form with moss and soil that acts as a base for living plants such as ivy, succulents or herbs with candles in the center. After the event is over, guests can take home the arrangement and either keep it on their tables or hang it on a wall or door. Depending on the plants used and the care given, these wreaths can be enjoyed for many years. We at Larkspur Botanicals pledge to: ◾ Continue to never use floral foam and only use paper based tapes in our arrangements ◾ Compost all plant remnants for use in our adopted garden ◾ Recycle and reuse everything we can ◾ aPrarcaknaggeem seunsttsa inably by eschewing the use of plastic wrap and plastic containers to package our ◾ Use recycled cardboard to package our arrangements ◾ Use American-grown plants ◾ Use organic whenever possible ◾ Work with clients to use vessels they have ◾ Support local farmers, artists and artisans

Description of Action:
To reduce the carbon footprint caused by shipping flowers and vessels from over seas, Larkspur Botanicals only purchases within the US.
Provide Environmentally Preferable Products Services
Description of Action:
At Larkspur Botanicals we aim to purchase glassware that is second hand rather than new.
Waste
Waste Reduction
Description of Action:
We compost all plant remnants from our floral designs. That compost is then used in our adopted garden in Edgewater, NJ. Because we are creating our own soil we save hundreds of dollars on the soil we would have purchased in the store. We do not use floral foam in our arrangements and only used paper based tape. All applicable items are recycled.

Because Larkspur Botanicals designs flowers only for events, we only order what we use. Therefore we do not use, need or have a floral refrigerator. Instead we condition the flowers through the water they drink by altering water temperature and nutrients.

Description of Action:
In November 2014, Larkspur Botanicals adopted a stretch of land in Edgewater, NJ that measured a little over 1000 square feet. The land was upturned from a recent retaining wall that was put in. The soil was poor and only weeds grew in it. Larkspur Botanicals planted pollinator friendly flowers that are drought resistant (such as sunflowers, zinnias, succulents and sedum to name a few) and used plant remnant compost to rehabilitate the soil. The garden itself is self sustaining and self seeding and has no water source other than the storm run off from the retaining wall and rain. Every season more plants are added.
