Provide Environmentally Preferable Products Services
Description of Action: 
Architects typically produce drawings and then print those drawing sets for internal and external reviews. The sheets are large and a typical drawing set might include 50-100 24"x36" sheets. Over the last few years we have shifted away from printing drawings when not required and using digital tools instead. All of our internal reviews and client/ contractor reviews are now done digitally saving significant amounts of paper.

Description of Action: 
We no longer provide single use plastic water bottles in the office. Water is purchased in large containers which are picked up and reused when empty and employees reuse drinkware for water, coffee and tea. This has reduced the amount of plastic waste and has saved us money.

Description of Action: 
Our office is conveniently located for all of our employees who regularly come in. We have an in-office staff of four people. Three are able to walk to the office from their houses (all within 2 miles) and regularly do. One utilizes ride sharing every day for her 10 mile commute. We have one full time remote employee who works from her apartment in Oregon. And everyone is encouraged to work from home when needed for child care or other reasons.

Improve Indoor Air Quality
Description of Action: 
We relocated our office from Jersey City to Rutherford. Our new office space has operable windows on all four sides of the office allowing for excellent cross ventilation and improved indoor air quality. Employees are seated near windows.
Support Community Initiatives
Description of Action: 
We regularly contribute to Rutherford community activities. In the past 12 months we donated time and money to the Rutherford Lacrosse Association, Rutherford Softball, Rutherford Civil Rights Commission, Toys for Tots and others. Additionally, we have established an annual scholarship for graduating high school students interested in pursuing a college major in design.

Description of Action: 
We comply with the Rutherford Waste and Recycling Regulations. Our trash is separated from our recycling at each work station. The Borough recycling guidelines are posted for everyone to see. Every two weeks we remove one bag of trash and two bags of recycling from the office. The recycling bags are then taken to my house where I remove the items from the bag and place in the appropriate bin.
