Waste
Waste Recycling
Description of Action:
Last year we expanded our recycling efforts from just customer waste to recycling all the waste cardboard, glass, plastic and paper from the restaurant. In doing so we were able to reduce our dumpster pick up from 5 days a week to 4 days a week and also reduced the size of the dumpster. Our monthly refuse bill was reduced from $2,000/month to $1,250/month. That's a $9,000/year savings!

Energy Efficiency
Description of Action:
We replaced all of the exterior light fixtures (22 fixtures) with LED lighting. Our electric bill is much lower and the new LED lights better illuminate the property at night, which improves safety.

Description of Action:
In 2017, we updated the light switches in our restrooms to be motion sensitive, resulting in the lights being on for a combined total of 2 hours a day, rather than 12 hours a day.

Description of Action:
Nauna's was the very first business in New Jersey to install public charging stations for electric vehicles, back in 2009. Since then we have expanded on our commitment to electric vehicles by installing new, state of the art EV charging stations and in 2015 we installed the very first public CCS DC Fast charge station in the state. DC Fast charge stations can recharge a typical electric car to 80% in about 30 minutes, allowing the owners the freedom to travel long distances without the inconvenience of having to wait for the long recharge times when charging on 240v public charging stations. I also drive an electric car and use it for the business as much as possible.
Water
Water Conservation
Description of Action:
We installed low-flow touchless water faucets and low flow toilets throughout the restaurant. The touchless faucets in the customer bathrooms save a considerable amount of water, since they only flow while the customers hand in under the faucet. Before we had these faucets we would occasionally check the bathroom at closing and find a faucet running at full blast. This may have been wasting water for an hour or more, and ran unchecked until the end of the night when we would inspect the restrooms. The hands-free touchless faucets won't allow this kind of waste to happen.

Description of Action:
For the past five years, I have been working with the Township of Montclair (and other municipalities) to promote the installation of electric vehicle charging stations. I have hosted about a dozen alternative fuel vehicle meets at Nauna's where we display electric and other alt fuel cars and explain the benefits of them to the public. For the past three years I have been the Northern NJ City Captain for National Drive Electric Week, hosting the NDEW meets at Nauna's where we have had over 50 electric cars on display and more then two hundred attendees.
