Hovione releases sustainability reports periodically assessing the progression of our sustainability goals. These reports are made available to public on our company website in full PDF. The last report reviewed 2019-2020 and was released in 2022. Description of Action: 
The modification of two processes and their cleaning practices were able to generate savings in many areas. We were able to change a cleaning solvent from methanol to acetone and reduce 1 full cleaning step and a solvent removal resulting in 6000 liters of aqueous waste savings, 1400 USD in direct consumables use for a total savings of approximately 10000 USD.

Trimethylalumninm supplier was changed to allow for the direct return of cylinders instead of waste disposal.

Description of Action: 
Repair of Syltherm chiller is ongoing to reduce waste treatment. The current treatment of aqueous waste is costly and consumes energy and raw materials. The organization has committed to completion of this project in FY2024 and the township has approved to the engineering. Currently in review with NJDEP.

Per our 2022 released sustainability report, the US site started reporting our Renewable energy per ton of product produced and recorded at 997 GJ/Ton. Globally, Hovione has crossed the 50% threshold for renewable energy use (53% in 2020), Hovione also reduced the energy consumed per ton of product from 1189 in 2018, 1245 in 2019 to 923 in 2020. reduction of cleaning frequency between batch runs for common processes. Reduces organic wastes generated and overall solvent usage. 30% increase in run time between cleanings resulting in over 17000 L of solvent waste reduction.

Description of Action: 
Hovione NJ was the first US CDMO to achieve FDA approval for a continuously manufactured pharmaceutical tablet in FY2022 and commercial production ran in FY23. Continuous Tabletting processes are significantly more efficient and sustainable than traditional tableting, reducing GHGs, plastic usage, and waste.

Description of Action: 
Hovione LLC in NJ conducted a comprehensive Business Continuity Plan development in FY23 and concluded in early FY24. In this BCP, Employee disease/pandemic outbreaks, fire and explosion risk, community release of materials, and other catastrophic loss situations were assessed and action plans developed. This is in addition to our emergency response plan that our site holds and builds upon the business fundamentals of mitigating risk to our community and employees.

Hovione offers 16 hours PER employee of volunteer time off, and are encouraged to support communities in their time. In 2024, the NJ site leadership team committed to a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store for an 8 hour day and posted socially within the organization to drive support.

Hovione has developed the proprietary tool PRIME—Process Ranking of Inputs from Manufacturing and Environment - which evaluates multiple aspects of each process, including eco-scale factors. Through in-depth knowledge and modelling, we are continuously reducing both the need for experimentation and for the consumption of active pharmaceutical ingredients and organic solvents during the development phase. The impact of this tool will be determined in the coming years, as it was launched its potential was recognized by the industry in the CPhI awards
