1. Management & Leadership: Identify a Sustainability Leader/Create a Sustainability Team: The Sustainability Team will be a subset of the already established Mission Team. The team will consist of the church pastor, Mission Team Chair, Church Council President, and at least three other members of the Mission Board. The Sustainability Leader has been identified as Suzanne Reynolds, a long-time member of the church and currently a member of the Mission Team. She recently presented a message to the church on the damaging environmental impact of single-use plastics.

Waste: Waste Reduction: The church has eliminated the use of plastic water bottles and has installed a water cooler to be used with paper or porcelain cups.

Waste Reuse: For decades the church has held two rummage sales per year to give the community a chance to buy items that other community members would be discarding and that would end up in landfills. Any items and clothing that does not sell at the sale are donated to the Vietnam Veterans.

Community: Adopt a Cause or Project in your Community: The church collects food for the Rutherford Food Pantry weekly. Notices are shared with the congregation as to what specific needs the Pantry has for a given month. Four grocery bags are collected per month and brought to the Pantry several times a month. The church also collects cash for the Pantry which is used to purchase give cards.

Other: Waste Recycling: All paper, glass, and aluminum is continuously collected and collected weekly through the Rutherford Recycling Program.
