Adopt Environmental Policy Statement
Description of Action:
Mayo Performing Arts Center will be a leading example for other entertainment venues in responsible sustainability by reducing waste and energy usage through the use of green-friendly products, energy efficient lighting, LEED certified cleaning materials, biodegradable products and a comprehensive recycling program. We intend to partner with the Town of Morristown to be a leader for sustainability and ecological preservation for future generations.
Identify Sustainability Leader
Description of Action:
As a member of the Board of Trustees for Sustainable Morristown, we have worked on the action step, in conjunction with Sustainable Jersey's certification requirements, to launch an Arts and Creative Task Force. We serve as the Town of Morristown's Green Team. I am also a member of the Creative and Arts Task Force of the Dodge Foundation, and a member of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Committee.
Develop Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Plan
Description of Action:
Working with our vendor, we purchase LEED silver certified products to be used for cleaning and maintenance. In addition, we use biodegradable trash liners, and 75% biodegradable corn starch alternative plastic cutlery.
Implement Environmental Management System
Description of Action:
By appointing a recycling coordinator, and working in conjunction with the Town of Morristown and the Recycling Center on Lake Rd., we have coordinated a weekly pickup of our plastics, glass and paper products to be recycled single stream thereby reducing our waste over 45% from 2015.
Management & Leadership Other
Description of Action:
Our management team is trained in the sustainability model, and works continually to reduce our footprint by eliminating paper filing, and reducing marketing materials by 30% throughout the fiscal year. We have also instituted a paperless program book to be viewed digitally on our website.
Waste Recycling
Description of Action:
Cipollini Waste and Recycling is our hauler. They reported the tonnage to the Town of Morristown for 2016. They are a single stream recycling, sending our theater cups (#7 plastic) to Mine Hill.
