Waste Recycling

We purchased three "waste stations" with three identified spaces for sorting paper, plastic and glass, and actual trash. This side by side with picture description system has increased consumer cooperation by approximately 75%. This has increased our ability to accurately sort paper, plastic/glass/aluminum and actual landfill waste. All recyclable materials are brought weekly to the recycling center in Morristown.

Zero Waste for glass. Scrap glass is remade into other products.

Waste Reuse
Description of Action: 
All waste materials are used as material for other purposes. Kiln paper scraps are used for firing small beads. Glass scrap is used for teaching purposes, filling in projects, and for creating new glass nuggets. Tiny glass fragments are used to create new glass projects and salable products.

Adopted a policy of green practices through management, leadership and Sustainable Morristown  We strongly are committed in stewardship, protecting the environment, conducting our operation in an environmentally resposible manner and edcuating the community, because it is the right thing to do.  We continue to review our business practices to make better informed environmantal decisions.

Education and trained employees on the benefits of reusing every possible material. Designed projects and special workshops to reuse materials that would have otherwise been thrown away. Posted signage to alert customers as well to the need to reuse materials before taking fresh materials.

These groups include a variety of county ARC programs, Hunterdon Learning Center, special needs schools and camps and a variety of patients who visit us from Morristown Medical Center.

Adopted a new Policy of no free bag during pickup. Any customer that requests a bag during pickup will be required to pay for the bag and all proceeds are donated to Sustainable Morristown
Industry Specific Practices
Description of Action: 
Glassworks Studio has gone 90% bag free. We are no longer shipping custom printed plastic shopping bags from China. As part of our customer rewards program we are encouraging them to bring their own reusable cloth bags. This is a win win in many ways: dollars, space and the earth.
