Identify Sustainability Leader
Description of Action: 
Healthy Buildings has a Green Team comprised of members from all office across the country. The Team is headed up by Gwen Merkin from our NJ Office. The Team meeting bi-annually to develop and implement sustainability practices in our offices.
Annual Environmental Goals
Description of Action: 
Healthy Buildings has conducted waste audits at all of our offices and established baseline diversion rates. We set a target reduction of 10% for all offices, and a competition is underway!

Develop Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Plan
Description of Action: 
Healthy Buildings commits to purchasing sustainable products. Purchasing recycled content products helps to "close the recycling loop" by putting materials collected through recycling programs back into use as products in the marketplace. Purchasing renewable resources and locally extracted and manufactured products minimizes extraction of natural resources and vehicle miles traveled for material transport. Purchasing least toxic products maximizes indoor air quality for building occupants and maintenance personnel. Healthy Buildings encourages the selection of sustainable products when available and promotes the purchase of products that meet the criteria specified below.

Waste
Waste Recycling
Description of Action: 
Our office recycles glass, aluminum, plastic, and paper. We also have a composting program facilitated by an employee. In 2017 our office conducted a waste audit to set a baseline diversion rate and a target reduction goal of 10% improvement. We implemented actions from the lessons learned from the audit including: purchasing a new waste free coffee maker and reusable mugs, improving recycling signage, and implementing reusable batteries.
Hazardous Waste/Toxic Use Reduction
Description of Action: 
Based on lessons learned from the waste audit, the office is moving from disposable to rechargeable batteries.Attached is the inventory which also reflects the cost savings that will result from this change.
