Management and Leadership
Adopt Environmental Policy Statement
Description of Action:
CannTech has resolved to adopt and implement a sustainability policy, which will include recommended practices for its principals and employees. These actions range from the routine and mundane (turning off the lights and computers overnight; separating recyclables from the trash) to long-term paper management and energy efficiency practices and an environmentally friendly procurement plan.
Waste
Waste Reduction
Description of Action:
The company’s paper management policy is at the center of our waste reduction strategy. The company focuses on reduction of paper use by avoiding unnecessary printing and maximize use of secure cloud-based storage to archive documents electronically instead of using hardcopies. We also prefer to share documents electronically. The company switched from a paper fax machine to an e-fax subscription service to route faxes electronically. The company has purchased duplex printers with double-sided printing capabilities, allowing it to move to double-sided printing and copying for drafts and internal materials. We do not use paper paystubs or checks; all payroll information is provided online and issued through direct deposit.
Waste Reuse
Description of Action:
We use biodegradable or reusable, rather than disposable, plates and utensils in the kitchen.
Waste Recycling
Description of Action:
We encourage our personnel to separate recyclables from the trash. The company recycles printer cartridges and purchases recycled cartridges. In its procurement of office supplies, the company limits its purchases to paper with a high percentage of post-consumer recycled content (50% for copy paper and 100% for bond paper). We recycle the paper we shred in-house, and we will ensure the shredding companies we use will recycle rather than incinerate shredded paper.
Energy
Energy Efficiency
Description of Action:
CannTech uses Energy Star appliances and encourages its target investments to do the same. We have switched to compact fluorescent lighting. We encourage our team to be judicious with HVAC settings. We turn off the lights and computers when we are not in the office.
Energy Other
Description of Action:
CannTech actively encourages its clients and investment targets in the regulated medical cannabis industry to deploy measures to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The cannabis industry is among the most energy intensive in the U.S., with regulated indoor cannabis cultivation operations accounting for 1% of total electricity use in the U.S. (responsible for approximately 15 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually). On average, lighting and HVAC account for approximately 80% of total energy costs for commercial cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facilities. CannTech aims to reduce the industry’s environmental impact while bringing compassionate relief to patients suffering from serious debilitating conditions. These goals and practices include the promotion of green building practices and renewable energy sources; employing rainwater harvesting, water reclamation, and drip irrigation; passive solar design and thermal massing; using LED lighting for cultivation; and filtered Energy Recovery Ventilation.
Transportation
Employee Commute
Description of Action:
CannTech encourages the use of mass transit alternatives by reimbursing for ferry transportation, and we do not offer employee parking subsidies.

Transportation Other
Description of Action:
United Airlines’ Eco-Skies CarbonChoice program provides business travelers like CannTech LLC the ability to track and offset a portion of the emissions associated with its employees’ business travel. CannTech will be able to receive customized emissions reports and will be afforded the opportunity to reduce the carbon footprint associated with its principals’ air travel through the purchase of carbon offsets. Through United’s partnership with Sustainable Travel International (STI), the carbon offsets allow participants to support projects designed to help reduce greenhouse gases and provide social and economic benefits to communities United serves. United’s Eco-Skies CarbonChoice program, its partnership with STI, and the proximity of CannTech’s offices and its principals’ residences to Newark Liberty International Airport (a United Airlines hub) have led to CannTech’s policy of booking business travel on United or its partner Star Alliance airlines whenever possible.
