Tropical rainforests have been described as "the lungs of the earth", global rainforests produce between 20-30% of the oxygen we breathe and helping to store excess carbon.Tropical rainforest deforestation releases stored carbon into the atmosphere so much that it is responsible for 10% of worldwide carbon dioxide emissions. Palm oil production can cause deforestation in the tropical rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia as forest area is cleared in place of palm oil plantations. 50% of packaged foods, including candy and snacks contain palm oil. Supporting companies that contribute to sustainable palm oil agriculture and limiting palm oil consumption can help protect our tropical rainforest ecosystems including the orangutans, elephants and tigers that live there.
