Shade Tree Garage accepts motor oil, batteries, aluminum, belts, brass, glass, steal/iron, and tires for recycling.
Waste Reuse
Description of Action: 
Shade Tree Garage engages in material reuse for batteries, scrap metal, tires, alternators, starters, brake calipers, and steering racks. Materials are stored in closed containers as to prevent contamination, stagnant water and mosquitoes. Batteries are turned in at a return of $9-$16 per battery. Approximately 130 batteries are recycled per year.

Description of Action: 
Shade Tree has continually improved the efficiency of its lighting. In 2015, we replaced 48 4' fluorescent lights with 20 lights, and more recently we replaced an additional 36 florescent light bulbs with LED lights. Natural light is harvested through windows and screens were installed to control heat. A Skylight was replaced to maintain natural lighting. Motion sensors are installed on interior lighting. Timers are installed on exterior lighting. Employees are trained on decreasing plug load by unplugging charged items and unused equipment.

Shade Tree recently upgraded some of its equipment to increase efficiency and reduce waste. Most notably we upgraded our tire balance equipment to a more energy efficient unit. Additionally, we have installed an auto drain on our air compressor which improves system efficiency through reducing air lost and ensuring condensate does not build up in the system causing equipment malfunction.
