Identify Sustainability Leader
Description of Action:
Stevens recently hired Olivia Conner-Bennett as the Sustainability and Transportation Coordinator. Previously, it was just Luke Hansen, Director of Sustainability and Transportation. With Olivia now working under him, they create the Sustainability team at Stevens.
Waste
Waste Recycling
Description of Action:
Stevens offers paper and plastic recycling across the entire campus. Students periodically help conduct audits to ensure that classrooms and other spaces have both trash and recycling bins. From July 2018 to June 2019, 663.3 tons of materials were recycled. Electronics waste generated by the institution is collected by the Facilities department and stored on site until a regular pick up by our electronics waste vendor. Regentech picks up the waste and provides documentation on the amount of material collected and recycled. The waste is recycled off site at Regentech's facility.

Renewable Energy
Description of Action:
Stevens is continually evaluating different ways to reduce energy consumption and its carbon footprint. At the core of that is the prioritization of improving energy efficiency of the buildings, while making sure to provide sufficient heating and cooling to the campus year-round. LED lighting retrofits, on-site solar PV arrays, purchasing Renewable Energy Credits, and cogeneration units are some of the strategies being employed as part of that goal. Stevens has rooftop solar PV arrays on Schaefer Athletic Center, Williams Library, and Jonas Hall, and ground-mount arrays in the 8th Street parking lot, as well as behind Davidson Lab. From July 2018 to June 2019, Stevens used 201,490 Kilowatt-hours of electricity from on-site, clean and renewable sources. Stevens has achieved 100% renewable, zero emissions for reported electricity usage in fiscal 2019 for the entirety of its Hoboken campus operations.
Certification Programs
LEED™ Silver, Gold or Platinum
Description of Action:
All new construction on campus will be targeting LEED Silver at a minimum. The Gateway Academic Center and the University Center Complex achieved LEED Gold, highlighting the university’s commitment to creating a healthy and green campus.
Community
Serve Customers with Disabilities
Description of Action:
The Office of Disability Services, consisting of a director and two coordinators, exists to assist individuals with disabilities to have the opportunity for full participation and equal access to campus programs and services, in alignment with federal standards and state regulations.
