Great Road Farm compost their vegetable scraps to create a natural soil that improves moisture retention, increases crop nutrient content and improves overall health of plants and soil. Composting organic waste is a way of reusing organic waste to return nutrients back into the soil.

Soils typically range from 1 percent to 10 percent organic matter. Soils with high organic matter help to sequester carbon and contribute to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. Globally, soils contain about 3 times more carbon than the atmosphere and 4.5 times more carbon than all living plants and animals.
