Description of Action:
Angelique Devost is active in her community as both a member of the Sustainable Madison Advisory Committee and the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce. Annual Environmental Goals
Description of Action:
Having dramatically reduced waste and energy consumption related to Devost Design and personally, Angelique's next goal is to replace her current vehicle with an electric vehicle in 2023.
Waste
Waste Reduction
Description of Action:
Angelique Devost has been on a mission to reduce waste for many years. Because Devost Design is a home-based business, there is an overlap between her personal and professional waste reduction efforts. For example, items like tea and snacks (such as nuts), are purchased in bulk in her own glass containers. These containers were originally purchased containing food items such as honey, jam, peanut butter, etc. Angelique also keeps a Terracycle "All Your Waste" box on hand for items such as pens, PUR water filters and packaging that cannot be recycled curbside or at the plastic film drop off at the local supermarket. These efforts have enabled Angelique to reduce the amount of garbage placed at the curb from one tall kitchen trash bag per week to one very small bag every 2-3 weeks.

Waste Reuse
Description of Action:
Because Devost Design has been mostly paperless since 2016, file folders, hanging folders, binder clips and other office supplies that were on hand, but no longer needed were placed on the Madison Swap and Share Facebook page and picked up by local residents who could use them.
Waste Recycling
Description of Action:
All paper, corrugated, plastic, glass and metal that can be recycled curbside are placed at the curb weekly for pickup. Plastic film and shipping packaging is recycled at the drop off location at the local supermarket.
Food Waste
Description of Action:
All food waste generated on premises gets recycled through Java's Compost.
Transportation
Employee Commute
Description of Action:
Angelique Devost has chosen to run Devost Design as a home-based business since 1994, effectively eliminating a commute to an office.
Efficient Business Travel
Description of Action:
In 2017 Angelique relocated to Madison, NJ and walks to all local business and Chamber of Commerce meetings and events. In addition, the majority of client meetings are held by phone or on Zoom.
Fleet Vehicles
Description of Action:
A new Ford Mustang Mach-E EV was just purchased to replace a 2015 BMW X1. The average miles driven annually on the BMW was 8,700. At an average gas mileage of 28 mpg, the car consumed approximately 310 gallons of gas per year. That translates to 2,755 kilograms of carbon that will no, longer be released into the atmosphere. The gallons of fuel saved are the projected amount for the coming year based on annual average miles traveled.

Industry-Specific
Industry Specific Practices
Description of Action:
Traditionally, a graphic design business has used a lot of paper and printer ink along with frequent use of delivery services, such as FedEx. In recent years, that has changed dramatically. Project proofs that were once printed out in color and sent via FedEx to the client for approval are all delivered via email now. Because is this, Devost Design no longer buys paper by the case. This also means that the need for printer ink has gone way down. Brochures, flyers and other marketing materials that used to be printed commercially for distribution are now largely sent via email. In 2016 Devost Design sold it's large format Espon color laser printer that printed up to 12" x 18" and replaced it with an HP Officejet that prints letter and legal size sheets. At one time, the company purchased multiple cases of 12" x 18" paper per year that would currently cost $145 each. Now a single ream of 8.5" x 11" paper is purchased as needed, usually one every three year at a cost of about $15. Savings noted is based on the purchase of 2 cartons of 12"x18" paper and a set of CMYK ink cartridges.
